Next week my wife is attending a photography workshop so I am in charge of caring for my 3 year old and I have accumulated some time from traveling for work that I will be able take Wednesday -Friday of next week off. So, naturally, for someone who owns a TRD Off Road Tacoma I want to do some overlanding. Problem is I don't know where to go. I have narrowed it down to 2 places that I have never been before... City of Rocks National Preserve in the in Great State of Idaho(my home state) and Capitol Reef National Park in Southern Utah. I shall outline my trip and if you can help me decide and make some suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind I have a adventurous 3 year old tagging along and I am traveling only with my vehicle unless !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! wants join me or anyone else for that matter.
City of Rocks
I would leave my home in Northern Utah. I think I will make some touristy stop like Hill AFB to check out some sweet planes. There's an SR-71 there c'mon my 3 year old will have a great time. I live right by this place and I have not taken my boy there
THen after a hour or so there I will begin the real trip. I figure to go out towards the desert and on the way stop at my old employer ATK and check out the rocket garden. They are not real rockets they are just steel rocket cases. Still cool nevertheless.
Then we would go off onto the ugly friggn desert there and maybe stop at the old Promontory Point where the railroad lines met back in the day.
Then drive through the desert maybe stop along the way somwhere. There is a tiny reservoir just below the border of Idaho we could probably spend the night and then go to city of rocks the next day.
Capitol Reef/Goblin Valley
For capitol reef I though i would drive south on and stop at Fish lake before we get into Capitol Reef. Looks nice there. Maybe spend the night there.
Or over to the east there is Bullion canyon which has a pretty cool waterfall. I
Then we would drive into Capitol Reef and stay there maybe 2 nights and do some hiking and doing some good ole relaxation and enjoy the scenery.
Along the way in Hanksville, UT is the mars research station where NASA among others perform research on exploring the Red Planet.
Then there is Little Horse Canyon
Then after that i figure to head over to Goblin Valley and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I have got Wednesday(maybe Tuesday evening) through Saturday. I thought of Skyline at first but then I just figured I would take some more time off work and be more adventurous. I would be coming back Saturday but I was going to suggest you join me at Goblin Valley or at Little Horse Canyon Friday night or City of Rocks, depending where I go but right now I am looking to Southern Utah because it is so friggn' amazing.

Well that changes things up a bit... but yeah I was offended(not really) when you mentioned Skyline. That's the problem I have noticed with Utah is that there are a lot of the same names for things. Like there is a Cottonwood Canyon in Logan. It's very confusing sometimes. Definitely going to look into this trail.
BTW there is a very good chance I am going to get some Duratracs this weekend.
